Here at SAS we couldn’t be prouder of our Regional Reps Programme. A grassroots approach to the global issues faced by our coastlines, this team is made up of passionate and engaged VOLUNTEERS from all walks of life.
Acting as the voices of SAS in their communities these inspired individuals lead beach cleans, conduct education talks, connect with local councils and their local Member of Parliament, highlight regional issues and promote SAS’s national campaigns and initiatives. They enrage, motivate and empower their communities to do more and, in their own words, fight the good fight.
From humble origins, the Reps Programme has gone from strength to strength; instrumental in the delivery of 55,000 signatures to No.10 in 2013, leading to the formation of the POW All Party Parliamentary Group, responsible for writing 165 letters to their various MPs calling for a Deposit Return Scheme to be implemented UK-wide and vital in leading their communities towards Plastic Free Approved Status via Plastic Free Coastlines, Plastic Free Schools and, more recently, challenging their MPs via Plastic Free Parliament. The Reps are the community driving force behind many of SAS’s successes and are one of our most valuable assets.
2017 was our biggest year ever. Another increase in the Reps Programme to 135 fully trained and equipped Reps saw them deliver 529 beach cleans across all regions of the UK, mobilise 10,870 volunteers, remove 29 tonnes of marine plastic pollution from our beaches, deliver 143 education talks and run our presence at events and festivals from the Channel Islands to Cape Wrath. 2018 has started even stronger so why not contact your local Rep and see what they have planned?
Our Reps are all volunteers and are under a myriad different pressures on their time. If you want to get in contact with them please email Jack at the office on [email protected]
