London Surf Film Festival: SAS’s new charity partner

Today we’re talking London Surf Film Festival (LS/FF), who are supporting SAS as a charity partner. Bringing to the UK a hand picked line-up of the very best surf films from across the globe – documentaries to inspire, travelogues to stir up the wanderlust and cutting edge action to blow minds – LSFF is a celebration of the cream of international surf culture.

One of the LS/FF team’s favourite elements of the film festival is The Shorties short film competition.

Why? Festival Director Demi Taylor explains, “Short films are a central pillar of modern surf culture, a creative outlet for sharing stories and inspiring stoke. We wanted to celebrate the short and give homegrown filmmaking talent a platform to bring their visions to the surf world so in 2011, we established The Shorties. It has fast become one of the most prestigious and most hotly contested short film competitions for surf filmmakers in the world”

“We founded London Surf Film Festival in in 2011, dreamt up around our kitchen table in the deep mid-winter, after a few good waves,” says Demi. “The aim was to gather together the UK surf community to share the stoke, the storytelling, the culture and it’s grown to be so much more than that. Over the past decade, we’ve had the privilege of making friends and films, bringing some 250 of the finest surf movie premieres to the UK, sharing them on the big screen as they were intended to be enjoyed – accompanied by a packed crowd of likeminded folk. It’s become an international must attend for purveyors of the glide and surf culture aficionados alike. See you there!”

SAS’s middle finger at the water industry, ‘The Floater’ has made the longlist alongside beautiful travelogues, cold water sessions, tropical delights and littoral insights, traces of chaos and moments of clarity – all told in under 5 minutes.
