Severn Trent Water

Severn Trent Water is a privatised water and wastewater company in England and Wales. It is regulated by Ofwat and the Environment Agency.

Between its three most active sites – Lower Moor STW, Frankton Sewage Treatment Works and Church Stretton STW – there was a combined spill time of almost 2 years of sewage discharges in 2024. Combined, all of Severn Water’s assets had a spill time of over 52 years during this period.

Despite being the only water company to achieve a four-star rating in 2024, Severn Trent was fined over £2 million by the Environment Agency in the same year, after pumping hundreds of liters of raw sewage into the River Trent. These contradictions show just how low the bar is for water companies in the UK.

Severn Trent urgently needs to stop treating environmental damage as an acceptable cost of business and start investing properly in infrastructure to protect public health and waterways.
