Autumn Beach Clean Series Guide

SAS Call For Volunteers

Thank you for stepping forward to organise an Autumn Beach Clean Series event. With your help we aim to deliver 150 beach cleans, involving 3500 volunteers, spanning all coastal counties and removing a minimum of 20 tonnes of debris from our precious beaches.

Please register your event at [email protected] then follow our step by step guide (bottom of this page), which will enable you to plan, promote and deliver your own community beach clean safely and enjoyably.

The Autumn Beach Clean Series will unite the UK’s amazing coastal communities in confronting the marine litter crisis.

Get involved

To organise your own SAS Beach Clean simply follow the step by step guide below. (Note: In order for your event to be covered by SAS’s Public Liability Insurance, volunteer beach clean organisers must complete steps 1-6)

  • 1. Let us know that you would like to organise your own Autumn Beach Clean. Email us at [email protected] with; your name, beach and the date you would like to hold your event.
  • 2. Download the Autumn Beach Clean Series Pre-Event Checklist and return it to [email protected] Download document
  • 3.Download the Autumn Beach Clean Series Beach Manager Notification letter, fill in the details of your beach clean and email to the enquiries email address of your local borough council or the beach owners at private beaches (copy and paste "FAO Beach Management Team – Beach Clean Notification" into the subject field of the email). Please try to send this no later than 2 weeks before your beach clean. Download document
  • 4.Download, read and understand the SAS Mandatory Beach Clean/Event Safety Guidelines. Use to complete your Risk Assessment. Download document
  • 5. Download, print off and complete the SAS Autumn Beach Clean Series Risk Assessment Template for your individual beach. Have a copy of this completed document at your beach clean event. Download document
  • 6. Download and print off the SAS Public Liability Insurance Document. Have a copy of this at your beach clean event. Download document
  • 7. Download and print off a number of the Autumn Beach Clean Series Volunteer Sign-in Sheets to use at your event, then send them back to SAS HQ. Download document
  • 8. Download the SAS Beach Clean Marine Litter Factsheet and use it to create your own marine litter talk. Download document
  • 9. Download the Autumn Beach Clean Series Schedule and use as guidance to ensure your runs smoothly. Download document

  • Once you have done everything to ensure that you have organised a safe and responsible beach clean, you may want to add a personal touch to your event. This may be by making your own SAS Beach Clean Banner, integrating an SAS marine litter campaign task such as Return To Offender or recycling the plastic bottles you find.
