Chad Male
Ouseburn - North Rep
Hello! I’m Chad, originally from Marske-by-the-Sea but now living in Blaydon overlooking the River Tyne. I grew up sandwiched between the North Sea and the North York Moors, and feel a deep sense of responsibility to do my bit and protect the natural world and our environment.
With a background in communications, fundraising, campaigning and partnership work, I decided to join up with SAS and make the community where I worked a Plastic Free one. I’m the Community Lead for Ouseburn in Newcastle upon Tyne, and have organised river cleans, held community talks, and set up a steering group with the local council, councillors, organisations, businesspeople and residents to achieve Plastic Free Status in this wonderfully creative and progressive area of the city.
It’s important we encourage and nurture environmental activism in all its forms, across the ages and throughout the towns and cities in which we live. Being an SAS campaigner has allowed me to not only speak to my community about plastic use, but has opened up the conversation on waste as a whole; what we do with it, how we can positively work together to eliminate it and how we can all be environmental stewards, not matter what our role!
