Education materials

Surfers Against Sewage has worked very closely with education & communication specialists SciArt Solutions in designing and implementing the new Seas for Life programme and the Marineopoly programme, which features at it’s heart an interactive board game which delves into the various regions of the marine environment and the environmental issues it faces, highlighted by key SAS campaign strategies.

SciArt Solutions is directed by marine scientist and educator Dr Jo Henley. Jo has a PhD in marine science communication through visual media. SciArt Solutions specialise in three areas: interpretation; education; and communication. Whether it’s creating interpretation boards at coastal sites, designing educational interactives, delivering beach based workshops or writing environmental science accessible to a lay audience, SciArt Solutions offer the complete communication package. Jo designs and delivers educational workshops and resources throughout primary, secondary and tertiary education and has solutions for making most subjects accessible and engaging to the range of target audiences.

The key National Curriculum learning outcomes that the Seas For Life SAS Sustainable Coastal Communities educational programme covers are:

Science:

  • Humans and other animals.
  • Living things and their environment.
  • Adaptation.

Citizenship and PSHE:

  • Developing a healthy, safer lifestyle.
  • Preparing to play an active role as citizens.
