United Utilities

United Utilities is a privatised water company in England, with shareholders primarily based overseas. They are regulated by Ofwat and the Environmental Agency. 

The current CEO is Louise Beardmore who reportedly earned a staggering £1.25 million salary in 2025. Recent ‘bonus bans’ enforced by regulators are a barely-there slap on the wrist when these are the base earnings. 

In April 2025, Ofwat approved plans by United Utilities to collect an additional £12.7 billion in customer bills to improve environmental and customer services yet continue to allow hundreds of millions in dividends to be paid to company shareholders.
