2025 Mid Year Impact Report
The 2025 Mid-Year Impact Report by Surfers Against Sewage
Every wave carries a story – we’re here to ensure these stories echo with restoration, resilience, and hope.
This report showcases the change-making power of our volunteers across the UK – it highlights the unwavering commitment of our communities who continue to rally together and demand an end to sewage and plastic pollution.
This UK-wide network of thousands of volunteers in communities, schools, towns and villages are fighting for cleaner, safer waters in the UK’s rivers and ocean.
Our work bridges the intersection between driving positive environmental change and human health.
We focus specifically on ending sewage and plastic pollution from inland waterways to the ocean.
Through diverse nationwide community programmes, we empower people to become confident environmental advocates and changemakers.
This leads to on-the-ground action and improvements to local environments – we connect these local actions through innovative campaigns, creating a unified voice powerful enough to drive national change.
We activate a vast community of over 200,000 regular supporters, over 100,000 plastic clean-up volunteers, over 630 Plastic Free Communities, and reach over 1.5 million schoolchildren.
These incredible supporters, volunteers and communities give us the reach and mandate for environmental change at the highest levels.
In 2025, our ocean-saving work is focusing on tackling Water Quality and Plastic Pollution issues.
These are critical issues for the future of our inland and coastal waterways, and ocean and human health.
