Here at SAS we couldn’t be prouder of our Regional Reps Programme. A grassroots approach to the global issues faced by our coastlines, this team is made up of passionate and engaged VOLUNTEERS from all walks of life.
Acting as the voices of SAS in their communities these inspired individuals lead beach cleans, conduct education talks, connect with local councils and their local Member of Parliament, highlight regional issues and promote SAS’s national campaigns and initiatives. They enrage, motivate and empower their communities to do more and, in their own words, fight the good fight.
From humble origins (3 Reps in 2009 who ran 6 beach cleans involving 200 people) the Reps Programme has gone from strength to strength. In 2013 55,000 petition signatures, part of our Protect Our Waves campaign, were delivered to No.10, an action that couldn’t have been achieved without the then 40 Regional Reps. The petition led to the formation of the POW All Party Parliamentary Group that saw marine conservation issues taken to the highest levels of Government.
2016 was our biggest year ever. Another increase in the Reps Programme to 125 fully trained and equipped Reps saw them deliver 529 beach cleans across all regions of the UK, mobilise 5,717 volunteers, remove 18 tonnes of marine plastic pollution from our beaches, deliver 143 education talks and write 165 letters to their various MPs.
When contacting our Reps please do remember they are volunteers with a myriad other commitments on their time and lives outside of SAS.
