Our funding

We rely on the support of our members, partners and the global ocean community to finance our work. But we won’t take money from just anyone.

Like all charities, we need to generate income to support our campaigns, environmental initiatives, and community events.

We do this in a variety of ways – through membership subscriptions, individual and corporate donations, grants, fundraising events, sponsorship, and merchandise.

But we’re extremely picky about where our funding comes from.

We think it’s vital that we remain a free and fearless advocate for the ocean. As such, we won’t take money from anyone who could jeopardise our independence or compromise our stance on environmental issues.

Our corporate engagement policy is overseen by our Board of Trustees who have the final decision on who we will (and won’t) take money from.

We also value every penny that is donated to help us in our work. We aim to keep our administrative costs to a minimum, and always seek at least three quotes from different suppliers to ensure we get the best value for every purchase we make.

Most importantly of all, we can only carry on our work thanks to the support and hard graft of our members, volunteers, fundraisers and partners.

So from everyone at Surfers Against Sewage, we’d like to say a big, heartfelt thank you. We literally couldn’t do it without you.
