Join The Climate Coalition’s Mass Lobby 2025

Meet your MP at the most impactful climate and nature lobby ever, and call on them to Act Now, Change Forever.

On Wednesday 9th July 2025, thousands from across the UK will come together at Westminster for a Mass Lobby — a nationwide day of action, organised by The Climate Coalition, where people like us meet their MPs to call for bold leadership on climate, nature, and justice. This is more than just a political meeting; it’s a moment of unity, hope, and community.

Whether you’re new to campaigning or a seasoned activist, this is your chance to stand up for a safer, fairer, and greener future. The day will be filled with inspiring events — from nature walks and speaker sessions to shared stories and powerful conversations — all centered around one clear message: now is the time to act for what matters most.

Taking part is simple. Sign up, email your MP to let them know you’re attending, and invite others to join. Together, we can send a message that cannot be ignored. Check out our top tips for the day below.

Top tips for Surfers Against Sewage attendees

When signing up to the mass lobby you will get lots of super helpful guidance about how to engage with your MPs. We are adding 3 top tips and some specific question you might want to ask your MP on the day.

Top 3 tips:

  1. Talk about your personal experience and what’s happening in your local constituency. This will show your MP how their actions will make a difference locally and improve constituents’ lives.
  2. Do some research, find out who your local MP is, and what they’re interested in. This will help you speak in terms they understand.
  3. Keep it short, keep it simple. MPs have to cover a massive range of issues so think of one key message you want to land and keep coming back to it.

Questions on plastic pollution to ask:

  1. The final round of Global Plastics Treaty negotiations is taking place in August. What are you doing to make sure that the government support an ambitious treaty that creates global targets to reduce plastic production?
  2. My local [beach, park, river] is constantly polluted by plastic. What are you doing in parliament to tackle single use plastic and ensure the creation of a circular economy which makes sure items are being reused?
  3. Will you commit to pressuring government to implement domestic legally binding targets to reduce the production of plastic as well as the wider plastics treaty when its agreed?

Key stats:

  • In 2024 alone, over 400 million tons of plastic were produced globally (UNEP 2025) and by 2060, plastic production is predicted to triple (OECD 2022)
  • Up to 99% of plastics are made from polymers derived from non-renewable hydrocarbons, mostly oil and natural gas (Houssini et al, 2025 – Complexities of the global supply chain revealed )
  • By 2050, plastic production and incineration could emit 2.8 gigatons of CO2 per year, releasing as many emissions as 615 five-hundred-megawatt coal plants. ( CIEL 2025)

Questions on sewage pollution to ask:

  1. The Independent Water Commission is working on its final recommendations to help transform the water industry. Do you think the interim report will actually lead to the transformational reform of the industry we so desperately need?
  2. How do you intend to keep the pressure on government over the next year to ensure they introduce a new water reform bill that makes sure all water companies are restructured to focus on delivering benefits to the public and environment, rather than rewarding polluters?
  3. Our local water company is responsible for thousands of hours of sewage pollution every year. What are you doing to hold them to account for this pollution and ensure they invest rapidly to end sewage pollution into the places we swim surf and play?

You can read our latest Water Quality Report to find out more about the issue and what we want to see change.
