Northumbrian Water

Northumbrian Water is a privatised water company in England, with shareholders primarily based overseas. They are regulated by Ofwat and the Environmental Agency.

Less than 12 months after receiving penalties of £17 million from Ofwat in August 2024, Northumbrian Water found itself in hot (and filthy) water once again and was fined a further £15.7 million, tied to failures in wastewater treatment works and sewer network management.

Northumbrian Water urgently needs to channel investment into upgrading aging infrastructure to reduce sewage spills and protect communities and waterways.
