Abbie Jones-Walters

Individual Giving Officer

I joined SAS as the Individual Giving Officer in April 2020, after working with charities and ethical organisations as a freelance Digital Marketeer and fundraiser since graduating my MA in Creative Writing. I’ve worked with human rights charities supporting refugees and victims of trafficking, sustainable finance initiatives seeking to reform the economy and turn capitalism on its head, and local community initiatives supporting vulnerable people closer to home.

I’m excited and proud to be working for an awesome charity that does such vital and inspiring work protecting our oceans. I’m a lifelong activist and our natural world is my biggest inspiration: I firmly believe it’s our responsibility to do what we can, with the talents we have, to conserve the environment and allow the creatures and communities that depend on it to thrive.

I grew up in Yorkshire with too many siblings, step-siblings and animals to count, and environmentalist parents meant that all of our walks featured ‘name the tree’ and ‘what’s that bird’ pop quizzes. Our annual Cornwall trip was the highlight of my year, until I decided to stay – soon adopting a sassy rescue Malamute to accompany my partner and I on our coastal adventures.

A few of my favourite things are; night-swimming with the bioluminescent algae on the Helford Passage in late summer, getting battered by coastal winds on intrepid excursions, glassy lilac seas at sunset, disappearing into a good book with my dog or cat on my lap, snacks, finding a peaceful spot to work on my writing, and spending time with my family.
