My family have always called me a water baby ever since I was young, due to my love for the sea. From a young age, I have always loved and participated in water sports such as surfing, sailing and kayaking. Although I live in Exeter, which is not on the coast, our local beach (Exmouth) is only 8 miles away so I often cycled and run there in my free time – I always spend as much time at beaches in the South Wets as possible. I also visit St Ives frequently for short breaks away from the city.
From what I have seen, marine pollution is really badly affecting the south west. In addition, most of our rivers contain high amounts of plastic and other litter. I want to help raise awareness of the importance of keeping our rivers and coasts clean to the younger generations to ensure that they are able to enjoy being able to do water sports and activities in a clean and safe environment in the future.
