Before joining Plymouth University to begin a degree in Ocean Science in 2014, I was fortunate enough to travel the world volunteering my time to conservation projects and spending time in some breathtakingly beautiful places. Ironically, it was leaving my hometown in North Devon that made me appreciate how much I cherish it. Not many people are fortunate enough to say they truly love where they live and for that reason I feel a responsibility to protect it.
I’m recently concluded research into the abundance of micro plastics found on my favourite beaches in North Devon, with a hope of identifying major sources and ways of mitigating their entry into the marine environment. I travel home regularly to surf and kite surf with my friends and family as well as writing for websites such as The Inertia and The Plastic Project. Joining the SAS Reps team this year has felt like joining a bigger movement i’m really excited to be a part of.
