Known as Matt or “Jonsey” I spent my early years in the South /South West and started surfing at a young age. After spending my teens in the North I decided to move to Scarborough to go to University and study Environmental Science. I worked as a Beach Lifeguard for many years after that in between Winter travels.
I set up the first RNLI Lifeguard area in the North and have been the Area Supervisor for the last decade. This year I became self employed after setting up my own Company “Coastal Concepts” which is a Coastal Training & Education initiative that operates in Schools. We provide Water safety education and Junior Lifesaving programs.
I’ve been a Surf Coach since 2006 and now concentrate mainly on 1-1 and advanced workshops. I’ve also been making Surfboards under the AMP banner since 2002.
The reason I want to be a Rep for the area is that I simply want to ensure my own children and all the Surfers/water users of the future get the benefit that we’ve had and continue to have, of living in a beautiful and diverse Coastal location. The next generation are already more immersed in Environmental actions such as Beach cleans and plastic free community awareness than we ever were and I already see the culture change is happening even if on a small scale.
I value Community! and appreciate the change that can be made by coming together.
