As a child my dad worked as a coal miner and his escape was to grab his Bilbo and go surfing, so as kids we spent most weekends down the Gower at our caravan in Llangennith and his fortnights summer holiday in a static at Gwithian.
Surfing was automatically my thing and it has given me so many experiences from travel and friendships to appreciation of what Mother Nature has given us.
Now as a father myself it is really important to me that my children have the same fun and enjoyment from surfing and days at the beach wherever we maybe. But it’s so sad to see so many of the beaches that I loved as a child now laden with plastic and waste and mini beach cleans are now a family thing.
My job as a youth worker allows me to educate and raise awareness about the natural beauty we have surrounding us here in Burry Port and the beaches such as Cefn Sidan on our doorstep. But by taking groups of young people surfing and seeing them fall in love with the ocean and the fun that it can provide I have an audience there to pass on the importance of protecting our oceans also
