Having grown up on the coast in Southport, I have always had an appreciation for the natural world and in particular the benefits that access to an amazing open coast can bring to your health and wellbeing.
I ran away to the North East coast briefly to study Marine Biology at Newcastle University, where I truly gained an understanding of the diversity of marine life and the threats that they face. Despite the amazing rocky shores and sandy beaches of the North East, I couldn’t stay away from the North West coast for long, where I have now been working on supporting coastal protection works across the region for a number of years.
I love to keep active and you may often spot me running down Southport’s coast road or through the sand dunes of Ainsdale (although perhaps not often enough…). I believe that it’s all of our responsibility to protect and enhance the wildlife and habitats across the coast and I hope to shout these messages as loud as possible so that the coast gets the appreciation it deserves!
