Southend-on-Sea - South East Rep
Having grown up by the estuary and spending the majority of my childhood down at the beach here – (swimming, sailing, canoeing & winsurfing), it seemed the natural thing to become an SAS Rep for my town, whereby I could help to protect our beach and marine life and the quality of our water, to enable other youngsters & locals, along with the thousands of tourists that we have visit our seaside town every year, to enjoy our waters here as I always have done.
I work at a local school & becoming involved with SAS has given me the opportunity to learn new environmental knowledge that I can pass on to other local schools & other educational establishments in my area and help ‘the new generation’ to look after what is on their doorstep and to keep looking after it for the foreseeable future.
I first came across ‘Surfers Against Sewage’ on a ‘Run to the Sun’ holiday down to Cornwall in the late 90’s where I first got my fascination with VDUBS! –
Staying at the Newquay View campsite in Newquay all those years ago! – and falling in love with the area’s gorgeous beaches and fishing villages and of course the surf!! … I have never looked back since.
I have followed SAS from those early days to now, where they are the biggest Marine Environmental charity that makes a huge difference to the quality and safety of our Ocean for all to enjoy! 😊
