I grew up on an island off the coast of South Africa where the ocean was my playground. Being out in the open meant that I could understand the human impact of our throw away culture, especially on a remote island in the South Atlantic. It is this grounding that gave me the desire to be a Marine Biologist and protect our planet and all the creatures that live in it. I am currently in Year 11 at school and I will be studying to be a marine biologist in September. I have worked on all of the beach cleans with my mum Laura Sanderson. I design all of the graphics/ posters and I was recently featured on the Welsh language programme S4C for my artwork.
I am passionate about educating young people to make changes from an early age. I believe this allows young people to make informed decisions about our future. I enjoy kayaking, SUP boarding, Wild swimming, wake boarding and I’m currently learning to surf. I would like to organise events at the college and schools such as extra curricular activities and beach cleans to make young people more aware of the natural environment and how our choices effect the planet.
I would like to do talks in the Welsh language at the local schools and organise extra curricular beach cleans. I recently did a Marine litter project with animations with under fives as part of a Snowdonia Beach clean event. I recently completed a study on conservation and the Angel sharks programme which is based near where I live and I am completing a BDMLR course in April. I hope to access a younger generation under the Snowdonia Beach Clean umbrella .
