Here at SAS we couldn’t be prouder of our Regional Reps Programme. A grassroots approach to protecting our oceans, waves and beaches, this team is made up of passionate and engaged VOLUNTEERS from all walks of life.
Acting as the voices of SAS in their communities, these inspired individuals lead beach cleans, conduct educational talks, connect with local councils and their local Member of Parliament, highlight regional issues and promote SAS’s national campaigns and initiatives. They enrage, motivate and empower their communities to do more and, in their own words, fight the good fight.
From humble origins, the Reps Programme has gone from strength to strength; instrumental in the delivery of 55,000 signatures to No.10 in 2013, leading to the formation of the POW All Party Parliamentary Group, responsible for writing 165 letters to their various MPs calling for a Deposit Return Scheme to be implemented UK-wide and vital in leading their communities towards Plastic Free Approved Status via Plastic Free Communities, Plastic Free Schools and challenging their MPs via Plastic Free Parliament. The Reps are the community driving force behind many of SAS’s successes and are one of our most valuable assets.
2021 has been our biggest year ever. Another increase in the Reps Programme to 213 fully trained and equipped Reps has seen them deliver 604 cleans across beaches, rivers, streets and mountains, mobilise 19,932 volunteers, remove over 60 tonnes of plastic pollution, deliver 112 educational talks and run our presence at events and festivals all over the UK. 2021’s not over yet, so why not contact your local Rep and see what they have planned?
Our Reps are all volunteers and have a lot of commitments outside of their role. If you want to get in contact with them please email Jack at the office on [email protected]
