After years of SAS campaigning on sewer overflows, the recent sewage discharges at Godrevy and across surf spots in the North East have raised the issue even further up the agenda. Surfers Against Sewage constantly tracks the alarming number of sewage spills nationwide, protecting people from potential harm through the Sewage Alert Service. Now is the time for you to take action to take the sewage campaign to the next stage.
Please support our calls for a DRAMATIC reduction in sewage pollution at our surf spots & beaches by contacting your local MP requesting that they join Surfers Against Sewage’s All Party Parliamentary Group.
The Protect Our Waves campaign was launched to raise the profile and importance of the precious and unique wave resources that we are blessed with around the UK, with the ultimate aim of strengthening legislation to help protect these areas from threats posed by developments, sewage pollution and marine litter. The campaign neatly encapsulated the majority of themes and campaigns we work on, and helped inspire over 55,000 to sign in support SAS’s current mission, whose signatures were delivered to 10 Downing Street n October 2013.
We are currently finalising the next stage of the campaign through the creation of the Protect Our Waves All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) to address the issues raised by the petition with regulators and relevant Ministers within Parliament. A POW APPG, run by SAS, will be tasked with organising debates in the House of Commons, and the first issue of the group will be to discuss tighter regulation of sewer overflows to protect our surf spots from raw sewage pollution. We need you to contact your MP to ensure they join the group.

“Dear (Name) MP,
I am a supporter of Surfers Against Sewage (SAS). SAS is finalising the formation of a new All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) to address the impacts of sewer overflows & untreated human sewage discharges at UK beaches, tackle marine litter on our coastline and prevent inappropriate coastal developments on surfing resources, bathing waters and beaches in our region and around the UK.
I am calling on you, as my elected representative, to join SAS’s APPG to play a full & active role in preventing sewage discharges and protecting our beautiful beaches that are so important to your constituents.
