Your MP, Layla Moran, is one of a handful of MPs chosen to take part in the powerful committee examining the Environment Bill line by line.

Over the next few weeks, they’ll get to vote on important changes to the Bill that would make the new law much stronger -- and could protect the ocean for future generations.

Our local volunteers have organised a clean up as part of Surfers Against Sewage’s Big Spring Clean.

Can you help get your MP to join us so we can talk to them about protecting the ocean?

Your MP’s email address is below and there’s an example message you can copy and paste.

Dear Layla Moran,

Congratulations on your appointment to the Environment Bill Committee.

As your constituent, I’m excited to hear you’ll be getting a say in this hugely significant new law for nature.

I’m a supporter of Surfers Against Sewage and wanted to let you know there’s a chance to get into nature with some local people coming up soon as part of the Big Spring Clean: Summit to Sea.

I would really like for you to join in.

Here’s the details:

RSVP to: Jack Middleton ([email protected])

You might get a few emails from constituents like me about this -- I hope that shows how keen we are for you to come along!

In your role on the Committee, I hope you can strengthen the Bill for ocean protection in particular.

I believe that adopting the following amendments in particular is critical:

  • Amendments 85, 125, 169, and 183 will ensure that the Bill protects the ocean as well as the land.
  • Amendments 1, 80, and 82 will see clear, legally binding targets that can't be undone.
  • Amendment 135 will make sure we improve the quality of bathing waters.
  • Amendments 20, 106, 128, 158, 159, and 182 will reduce consumption and production of single use items.
  • Amendment 156 will ensure the creation of an independent watchdog with real powers to hold government to account.

What is #GenerationSea?

We want to gaze out to sea and know that sea life is thriving, not choking on plastic or struggling to survive climate change.

We need powerful laws and an independent environment watchdog to protect our oceans and enforce targets for government and big business.

We want the UK government to stop plastic pollution, act fast on climate change, protect  sea life and prevent sewage creeping back into our waters.

Together, we can be the voice of the ocean, from our beaches to the corridors of power.

Our campaigns are powered by people like you. Protect what you love by making a special donation today - it’s make or break time.
