About the speaker
After his studies in English literature and Economics, Stéphane Latxague spent his earlier years dividing his time between various jobs, and his passion for outdoor sports (surfing, snowboarding, rock climbing, free fall etc). In the early 90s, Stephane began to become more aware of the issues of pollution in the environments in which he loved and the effect it had on his health. Following on from this he decided to participate in his first paddle protests that ended at his local surf spot. These protests were organised by a newly created NGO – Surfrider Foundation Europe.
Professionally, Stéphane held various positions inside the surf/mountain industry including Retailer, Marketing Assistant, communication logistics Coordinator, Assistant PR Manager. Being interested in art and design, he also worked as a Freelance Artistic agent in Paris. Deciding he wanted a change, Stéphane began looking for a job in a cause-related organisation and soon joined a humanitarian organisation, Télécoms Sans Frontières during the Kosovo war. Stéphane worked there for almost 5 years, conducted more than 30 emergency missions as the Head of Operations and Development.
In 2003, he left TSF and joined Surfrider Foundation Europe, the organisation that organised the paddle protests he participated in, as Executive Director.
Today, Stéphane is also member of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council to the Aquitaine Region in France, the President of the “ONE Fund” (Ocean, Nature, Environment), Board Member of the Rip Curl Planet Fund and Advisor to the Board of Surfrider Foundation Morocco.
