Duke and Duchess of Cambridge join Surfers Against Sewage beach clean

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge join primary school pupils at a Surfers Against Sewage beach clean-up during a visit to Newborough Beach in North Wales.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined pupils from a local primary school on a beach clean organised by SAS today in Anglesey.

In April, Anglesey became the first county in the UK to be awarded Plastic Free Community status by SAS, in recognition of its work to reduce the impact of single-use plastic on the environment through it’s ‘Plastic Free Anglesey’ campaign.

Local SAS Rep Sian Sykes led the clean and said

“I was delighted to host the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and share our wonderful news of gaining Plastic Free Community Status for Anglesey. I was keen to explain we need to break our habit with single-use plastics as the convenience of today is at the expense of the future.

It was superb to see them actively getting involved with the local school group doing a beach clean and they were keen to find out what is washing up on our beaches.”
