Frequently asked questions

|

Where do I find my SAS membership number?

You will find your membership number in the top right hand corner of your welcome letter and subsequent letters you receive from us.

Where do I find the password for the Members Area of the website?

You will find this on any welcome or renewal letters we send. It will also be in the ‘Shop’ section of Pipeline magazine, as it’s the same as the shop discount code.

I am a student; can SAS help me with my university or school project?

Unfortunately, due to time and resource limitations, we are unable to help with any school or university projects. However, please feel free to use the Scientific Reports or any other materials on our website to inform your work.

How do I become a Regional Rep?

We recruit new SAS Reps in specific phases to effectively manage and structure the initiative, and train the team. If you are interested in becoming an SAS Rep you can read more about the process here.

How do I find my local SAS Rep?

Choose the region you live in via the ‘In Your Region’ menu and then find use the map to find your nearest Rep.

How do I report a pollution incident?

If you spot a pollution incident of any type affecting your local beach please report it using this step-by-step guide.

How do I report illness after using the sea?

If you become ill after using the sea please make sure you report it to us using our medical response form. Your information can help us build the strongest possible case for safer, cleaner seas.

Can I volunteer with SAS?

If you are interested in volunteering with us please get in touch, either by emailing [email protected] or calling 01872 553001.

Can SAS organise a beach clean at my local beach?

Unfortunately we cannot always visit every beach that we are asked to go to, however do feel free to get in touch with your local Rep to see if they are planning any events in the near future. Alternatively, you can organise your own clean by following our step-by-step guide, or you can do a Mini Beach Clean.

Can SAS host a stand at my event?

We can’t always attend every event that we are invited to, however if the team from SAS HQ cannot attend then we’ll endeavour to send one of our Reps along.

Who should I contact with a media enquiry?

If you have a media enquiry please call us on 01872 553001 or email [email protected].

Please email [email protected] or call the office on 01872 553001 for any sponsorship or fundraising enquiries.

How do I book an SAS education/schools talk?

Due to resource limitations we aim to organise education/school talks in specific regional groupings or tours 2-3 times a year. Each tour will cover up to ten schools in a region. Alternatively you can speak to one of our Regional Reps about the possibility of them visiting your school or group.

You can download a copy of any of these policies here.

What is SAS’s Fundraising & Sponsorship Policy?

You can find our Fundraising & Sponsorship Policy here.

Does SAS have public liability insurance?

Yes. You can download a copy of this here.

What is SAS’s charitable status?

SAS is a Registered Charity in England & Wales No: 1145877. You can find out more on the Charity Commission website.

Why doesn’t SAS organise the annual SAS Ball anymore?

Due to the change in licensing laws the SAS Ball is no longer economically viable. This is reviewed regularly and there may be exceptional years when we choose to organise the Ball, such as significant anniversaries. As an environmental charity with an increasingly broad remit, it is also important that we focus on our core mission rather than allocate staff time to organise this event.

Can SAS sponsor individuals, events or student projects?

As a small environmental charity with limited resources we cannot offer any financial support or assistance to individuals, events or other organisations.

Can I use the SAS logo to co-brand a product?

If you have a product through which you’d like to support us, please contact Head of Fundraising, Pete Lewis on [email protected], to discuss the use of the logo and any other necessary background information. All relationships of this type require an official SAS agreement setting out the parameters of the support.

The SAS logo cannot be used without prior permission. Permission will be granted once the agreed benefits, including any financial contribution, for SAS are established and the environmental standards of the product are ascertained.

Can I use the SAS logo at my event?

If you would like to support SAS as the official charity of your event or business please contact Head of Fundraising Pete Lewis on [email protected]

Can I sponsor SAS?

Of course! Please contact Head of Fundraising Pete Lewis on [email protected]
