Name: Sarah Bentley

AKA: Bentos

I love surfing… pure and simple, give me a wetsuit and a piece of fibreglass and foam and I am a happy girl. I surf everyday that I can and like to experiment with all different types of craft from shortboard to fish to classic noseriding longboard. There is nothing that gives me more pleasure than paddling out at my local break on a sunny day and enjoying the waves with my friends, having said that i have also been fortunate enough to travel to some of the planets most beautiful waves.

After several years competing in UK and european surf contests and representing the UK at the world surfing games,  I now surf for fun, I compete occaisionally but prefer just to rock up at the beach on early offshore mornings and just wallow in the sheer bliss of riding perfect waves with just a few people out.

Greatest achievement in surfing

Travelling to some of the worlds most beautiful surf breaks and representing my country in the sport I love

What does surfing/windsurfing/bodyboarding mean to you?

It means that I always have one eye on the tide and wind and will drop everything to score good waves

What pollution have you seen/been exposed to in the UK and on your surfing travels?

Pulling up at the beach looking at perfect waves breaking… but knowing that I should not go in because there has been a lot of rainfall lately and I am likely to get ill from the dirty water… there is nothing more frustrating for a surfer.

What current SAS campaigns are you most inspired by?

Obviously getting the water companies to invest more into sewage treatment and preventing the over dependancy on CSO’s is really important, it is something that needs to be addresses imeadiately as our climate changes to stop surfers and other recreational water users from getting ill doing the things they enjoy!

In what ways have you been involved with SAS over the years or what have you got coming up with SAS?

I have been involved with SAS for over 10 years, taking part in their school tours and talking to the children about the work of SAS and what they can do to help. I have helped out on the beach cleans and enjoy spreading the word!

I am looking forward to continuing my involvement with SAS, helping out on beach cleans  and any other ways that I can.
