”I started surfing in Cape Town and you couldn’t keep me out of the water as a boy. You still can’t at 49. The same stoke is there every time I see a pulsing wave going off.
When I came to the North East in the 90′s the level of domestic waste pollution was obscene. Condoms. Tampons, shit slicks were commonplace in the water. And I was so angry that it was allowed to happen that I joined SAS. After many campaigns and beach cleans the waters have improved but we still have our work cut out.
Currently, I am viewing a teaching career and teaching a surf programme to the local uni surf club. My hope is to get surfers to pay back what they take out of this great way of life. Often, many walk by the environmental issues we face and yet it is the environment that gives us the stoke of surfing. I hope through our work more surfers will get it… ”
