SAS welcome teachers back to school with free primary schools environmental resource

Click to enlargeClean water campaigners, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) are hoping to make the news school year a little easier with their 2008 FREE Key Stage 2 (KS2) school's resource. With the sun still shinning, with memories of the summer on the beach still fresh in the heads of teachers and pupils, SAS's resource can take you back to the beach whilst still learning and without leaving the classroom.

The ONLINE and FREE KS2 school's resource concentrates on Science, English, Geography and Citizenship. The resource, designed with cool, animated characters is called Save Our Seas (SOS). It's live now and can be used by all at www.sas.org.uk/education/sos

Click to enlargeSOS is designed to help raise children's awareness of environmental issues through a series of planned activities, quizzes and games written by an experienced educationalist. They are accompanied by a comprehensive set of teacher's notes ensuring that everybody gets the most out of this free resource.

Whilst aimed at years 4, 5 and 6 (KS2), many of the activities could easily be adapted for year 3 or even year 7 children. Once again SAS has made learning cool. The emphasis is on entertainment and enjoyment, with broad humour running throughout the animated materials, children can't fail to learn from this.

Prevention is better than a cure, and by educating the kids of today we are hoping they can prevent environmental problems of tomorrow".

Eric Dargent, Rip Curl Environmental Officer says: "We are stoked to be able to carry on supporting SAS's environmental education program. After the success of Operation Beach Clean for KS3 we jumped at the chance of helping with Save Our Seas. Armed with SAS's information, today's young surfers will be tomorrow's beach guardians!"

We had an excellent day and the children really loved the resource. It got them thinking and talking about the world we live in and several of them wanted to use the resource at home too. I loved the practical Science lessons and the sand sculptures and flicker books went down particularly well. I will definitely use this resource again, the kids really benefited from it."
