The SAS O’Neill Marine Education Project encouraged classes to work within the curriculum (Key Stage 2) to build projects that help them, their classmates and the general public learn more about preserving and protecting our oceans from pollution. The 5 winning schools showed fantastic imagination creating final projects that included raps, wall murals, a moving beach litter man and many beach cleans.
The 5 winning schools will be rewarded for their efforts with a fun but environmentally packed day of action with SAS and O'Neill during our activities week in July. We'll be based in the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth and here the kids will be rewarded by getting to go out on the regions largest and fastest RIB to watch and observe some of the fantastic marine wildlife we have around the regions shores. They'll also be fun education workshops and a chance to see the Museum's excellent and interactive exhibits. The class will also get to learn what it's like to travel the world as an O'Neill professional surfer and why its important the waves stay clean. Andy Cummins, SAS Campaigner says, “The winning projects showed a depth of environmental understanding that really impressed everyone at SAS and O’Neill. The 5 winners really deserve their place in the SAS O’Neill environmental activities week.” Local media are invited to join SAS to let the classes know they've won and to see some of the projects that have been completed. The 5 winning schools are:
SAS Campaigns Director Richard Hardy and O’Neill Pro surfer Robyn Davies will be visiting Devoran, Trevithick and Penzance schools. SAS Campaigns Assistant Andy Cummins and O’Neill Pro surfer Jake Boex will be visiting Laira Green and Cubert schools.
