Longlife
are happy to announce that the Eden Project is an official supporter
of the touring exhibition of Longboard designs, created by 10
of todays most creative minds. The artists include Damien
Hirst, Jamie Hewlett, Banksy, Adrenalin Magazine, Laird Hamilton,
Paul Kaye, A, David Carson, Surfers Against Sewage
and Aphex Twin. Each board produced is a unique and one-off work
of art. These unique pieces are currently for sale to the highest
bidder with all profits going to UK Coastal Charity Surfers Against
Sewage.
The
Oxbow Longlife surfboards will be on display in the Gallery Restaurant
in the Visitor Centre at the Eden Project from the 3rd
10th Aug. The Eden Project, St Austell, Cornwall, is a charitable
trust and visitor destination. The organisations mission is to
promote the vital relationship between plants and people leading
to a sustainable future for all.
"It's
brilliant to have this exhibition at Eden which includes the board
designed by Damien Hirst" says Chris Hines, Sustainability
Manager at the Eden Project. "We are thrilled that the surfboards
are being auctioned and the proceeds going to Surfers Against
Sewage."
"Early
surfboards used to be made from balsa wood; the balsa tree is
the fastest growing tree in the Humid Tropics Biome here at Eden.
The balsa surf board illustrates another of those weird connections
between our lives and plants. Furthermore, surfboards are a prime
opportunity for bio-plastics to solve and deliver another environmentally
sound product".
Raising
awareness and raising funds are two major elements of everyday
work of the environmental pressure group Surfers Against Sewage.
The Longlife project brings these two elements together in a unique
and unusual way. Whilst raising awareness of the serious issue
of coastal pollution Longlife is raising money to fund the valuable
work undertaken by SAS.
We
are very excited about having the Eden project involved with Longlife.
Having these two projects working in unison is an important step
towards raising awareness of the important issues SAS lobby everyday
