"Beach
Fest" festival in conjunction with Quiksilver Boardriders
surfing comp.
April 27th - 10am
On
Saturday 27th April 2002 starting at 10am there will be a beach
festival on Bournemouth Beach near the Pier, to raise awareness
and funds for Surfers Against Sewage. The festival is to complement
the Quiksilver Boardriders Club Surfing Competition, and will
offer beach users and spectators something extra!
There
will be two large marquees on the beach with stalls from local
businesses such as Stem Cell Creations, D.T.Arts, Hocus Pocus,
Culpeppers, Uniting Rhythms, Maddie- Reiki Teacher and The Tanning
Shop.
There will also be a selection of DJ's from Bournemouth and Brighton
and a local band called CON23 playing 'funk rock' live. The music
will be from 12pm through to 6pm. There will also be street entertainers
such as fire-eaters and jugglers entertaining the crowds to create
a chilled, relaxed family festival atmosphere. All this entertainment
is free of charge.
The
Fire Radio Station will be there, interviewing spectators and
surfers on how the competition is going and how they're enjoying
their day.
Surfers
Against Sewage focus on the 300 million gallons of raw or partially
treated sewage discharged around the UK coastline each day and
the two million tonnes of toxic waste dumped into the sea every
year. The proceeds of the day go to Surfers Against Sewage.
Two
students of the Arts Institute at Bournemouth on the Arts &
Event Production course, Sacha Billett and Theresa McInerney are
the organisers behind the festival. They have had continual support
from the staff at Just Add Water who are organising the Surfing
Competition for Quiksilver Boardriders Club and the After Party,
which takes place at the end of the Pier from 8 o'clock onwards.
