SAS/QUIKSILVER
SURFSHOW TOUR 2002
ABERDEEN-
11th-12th May 2002
The SAS/Quiksilver Surfshow Tour arrives in Aberdeen on the 11th
-12th May carrying some of the UK's best surfers plus World Masters
Surfing Champion Gary Elkerton.
The
Tourbus is a 10 day mission across the UK celebrating all that
is special about our coast. 20 million people use the coastline
of the UK every year and in many areas tourism and leisure play
a key role in the economy and well being of local communities.
James Hendy of SAS said today - "With this years Tourbus
we wanted to take the cream of British surfing further into Scotland
than we've been with the Tour before. Looking for a location to
hold our contest Nigg Bay was the beach we were told to head to
- it has the best conditions and is the favoured wave for many
surfers in the area. Unfortunately the beach doesn't appear to
be of the same high standard, reports that condoms litter the
sands is a serious concern for the water user!
While SAS are in the area we'll be trying to get to the bottom
of the problem looking into why it has become one of the UK's
dirtiest beaches. We will also be asking local surfers to report
back to us if they experience any symptoms of illness after going
in the water at Nigg Bay".
At
each venue the surfers will be holding press calls, expression
sessions, and surf lessons. There will also be educational talks
at local schools and universities on pollution awareness and beach
safety, including how to stay safe in the sun and water - courtesy
of our co-sponsors NIVEA Sun. This years tour will also be incorporating
a Tag Team style surf contest where local surfers will have the
opportunity to surf with some of the pro's on the bus.

'rookie' group
pm - pro signing session at Granite Reef Surf Shop - 3.30 -4.30
