We're stoked to announce the launch of our Fundraiser of The Year competition as a thank you to all supporters who raise money for SAS throughout 2009. If you raise the most money this year then you'll be crowned our Fundraiser of the Year; not only will you be setting a benchmark for future fundraisers, but you'll also win a two-night stay for two in a tipi courtesy of Eco Retreats. You can enter the competition as a group or as an individual (unfortunately businesses aren't eligible) - why not use it as an opportunity to fulfil a lifelong dream or ambition and raise some vital SAS funds at the same time? Sara Dowler, who walked 280 miles of the Cornish coastline to raise money for SAS, says, “I'd always had the idea that I'd like to walk around the coast of Cornwall. Ten years later and after a few 'what am I doing with my life' thoughts, I decided it was about time to stop daydreaming and get on with it! As I started planning, it seemed to make sense to try to raise some money while I was doing it and given my love for anything that involves being in or on the water - supporting SAS seemed an
obvious choice. As departure day came closer I wasn't sure how I'd get on spending such a chunk of time on my own, but in the end it was fine. Walking on my own was great - I could go at my own pace or stop and watch the sea or wildlife for as long I wanted. I met lots of friendly and supportive people on the way that I probably wouldn't have spoken to if I'd been with someone else. So if you've been dreaming of doing something a bit different or adventurous that you could do to raise money for charity - go for it - you won't regret it!"
