Hugo Tagholm's Fundraising Bike ride

Hugo Tagholm and his bikeRead Hugo's Blog

The sea and surfing play a big part in my life and I was recently made a board member of Surfers Against Sewage. This summer, as part of my commitment to their campaigns, I'm going to ride my bike from London to St Agnes in Cornwall, where SAS are based. This is particularly to raise money and awareness for their climate change campaign which, as you know, calls for carbon dioxide emissions to be reduced and for cleaner, safer energy options such as marine renewables to be adopted.

As this site shows, SAS campaigns address a whole range of issues that threaten the water environment including shipping practices, sewage and beach litter. Other emerging concerns include the impact of toxic chemicals and climate change on marine ecosystems. Please have a look through the site to get up to date with the latest campaign developments.

Hugo Tagholm and his bikeI'll be setting off on Friday 28th July and arrive a week later all things going to plan! The full route is as follows:

  • 28th July - Westminster to Henley
  • 29th July - Henley to Marlborough
  • 30th July - Marlborough to Glastonbury
  • 31st July - Glastonbury to Lynton
  • 1st August - Lynton to Bude
  • 2nd August - Bude to Newquay
  • 3rd August - Newquay to St.Agnes

Hugo surfingIn addition to raising core funds and awareness for SAS campaigns, I hope that my actions will inspire one or two people to make some energy savings. There are so many simple positive steps we can all take to help reduce the speed of the damage that's being caused - switch to a green energy supplier (www.ecotricity.org), don't leave your TV on standby, think about the air miles your food is doing (and the air miles you're doing for that matter!), recycle more, cycle to work - all these simple things help save energy and reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses.

I'd be very grateful for your support for my ride.

  • Cheques should be made payable to Surfers Against Sewage and sent to Hugo Tagholm, 47 Agar Grove, London NW1 9UG
  • Donate online at www.sas.org.uk/secure/donate.php Please remember to state that you're donating to my ride so I can say thanks.

In return, I'll send you a copy of the SAS magazine, Pipeline News, and keep you up-to-date with my progress through my online blog here in the summer.

Many thanks for the support!
