Donavon Frankenreiter made his first ever UK appearance at Porthtowan's Blue Bar on Monday 3rd October, following a record-quick sell-out of tickets to fans.
News of Donavon's only UK date spread like wildfire around Cornwall and tickets were snapped up within 2 hours! Donavon - known almost exclusively in this country amongst surfers for his music - made a flying visit to Cornwall for a special one-off gig on a tour of Europe to promote the release of his upcoming album, due out on 11th October.
The gig - his first ever date in the UK - is something of a coup for SW1 Productions, who have been in discussion with his management for some time over scoring an appearance in Cornwall. The low-key gig began with Donavon taking to the stage with his acoustic guitar and playing tracks from the album, including the beautiful "Butterfly" and the ever-optimistic "It Don't Matter". His soft and soulful voice was perfectly pitched despite the excited chatter of the audience. Donavon finished by playing a cover of "All Along the Watchtower" before meeting fans and signing autographs.
The ticket price included a donation to Surfers Against Sewage, a cause close to Donavon's heart - he was an early surfing star, lives in California and surfing continues to remain central to his life (he even managed a quick session at St Agneson the morning of the gig!).
Donavon was thrilled with the audience reaction in Cornwall and enjoyed his whistle stop trip to Cornwall so much he is planning to come back next year - so watch this space for news of another appearance!
