SAS was joined by adventurer, environmentalist and TV presenter Ben Fogle for the 5th annual Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project. An amazing 1455 beach clean volunteers took part in the initiative at 14 beautiful beaches, rivers and canals nationwide, removing 3827kgs of marine litter from our precious coastline.

International Symposium on the Protection of Waves
The protection of waves has been a growing concern for Surfers Against Sewage and other NGOs around the globe for a number of years. Although the Protect Our Waves (POW) campaign was only launched in 2009, we’ve been protecting waves from one threat or another since our conception 21 years ago. But the Protect Our Waves campaign gives us the structure to legitimately expand our remit, concentrating on wave protection like never before.
Using our years of experience the POW campaign identified the most potent and widespread threats to waves around the UK. These include threats from over zealous onshore and offshore developments, surfers and waveriders right of access and of course, environmental impacts.

Clean water campaigners Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) are celebrating this bank holiday Monday as Keep Britain Tidy commit to warning systems informing the public after sewage discharges on Blue Flag beaches. This commitment is a direct response to SAS exposing over 25% of the UK’s Blue Flags as currently failing to meet the imperative Blue Flag regulations and failing to warn the public after sewage spills. SAS will again be hosting a stand at the Relentless Boardmasters in Newquay, between 4th – 8th August. We’ll be signing up newcomers to the campaign, distributing information about all our projects and generally flying the SAS banner at the biggest surf contest in the UK. This August, Surfers Against Sewage in association with the Quiksilver Foundation & myGames (powered by v), will be hitting the road with the biggest beach clean tour in its history. Since 1994, the volume of marine litter on UK beaches has increased by 146%* and SAS is helping combat this tide line of trash through its beach cleans and ongoing campaigns. ‘Motivocean’ is SAS’s most ambitious beach clean tour to date and will be calling in at over 20 major UK beaches and waterside locations across the nation, including:
Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and four of the UK’s best Stand Up Paddle-boarders aim to cross the English Channel and set two new Guinness world records in one go, with a relay team and a solo paddler taking on the challenge. The SAS 2010 Challenge will launch on the day with optimum conditions, during the week of the 18th – 25th of June.
