Water Users Access

Along the thousands of miles of the UKs beautiful and diverse coastline there are only a finite amount of sites of special surfing interest. Our POW campaign looks to secure and protect surfer rights to access these surf spots and beaches.

And the UK is blessed with an array of beach breaks that offer something for everyone. From the fun barrels to the nursery ground white waters where we all learn to stand on our first waves.

We also have a plethora of high-quality waves that are suitable for the intermediate and expert surfers. These waves sustain communities with their economic and social benefits.

Surfable waves are a finite commodity, all-important to the UK’s surfing and waveriding community. Whether they are the waves we first stand up on, the waves weve progressed on to or those waves of consequence that we all aspire to tame. And therefore waves and access to them need protection.

SAS are supporting Marine Conservation Zones (MCZ) as they aim to restrict exploitation (drilling, fishing, mining etc) rather than to exclude recreational water users access. There are access issues such as Broad Bench and several other cases that are emerging, which SAS is campaining hard on already.

If you are concerned about securing and protecting surfers access at a spot near youplease contact andy@sas.org.uk

We believe that the UK coastline should be open for us to explore and enjoy but as we discover the beauty and diversity of our coastline, we should also recognise the need to protect this fragile environment. For more information on the pollution threats to this environment see the range of issues SAS today campaigns on.
