Beach Cleans

SAS has adopted a beach under the Marine Conservation Society's Beachwatch program. This means that every year in September, SAS record and pick up marine litter from Porthtowan beach in Cornwall. Our data is added to information from all over the UK to make up a national survey that sees how the nations' beaches fair for beach litter.

As well as this, throughout the year SAS do 4 more beach cleans and record and remove what marine litter is on the beach. Anyone can do a beach clean and you are more than welcome to come and help SAS if you are in Cornwall! If you are not in Cornwall then you can do a beach clean for SAS - how about doing a beach clean in conjunction with your local watersports shop or club? We'll advertise it on our website and direct SAS members in your area to help you. They don't take much organising and can be a really fun event. Make sure you contact the MCS as well as it could be they do not have a Beachwatch group for your area and then you can help them with the collection of litter and data as well as make a difference to how your beach looks.

Remember to send us some images of your beach clean as they could help us lobby for tighter legislation that reduces the impact of marine litter.
